Musselburgh Cricket Club can look back on a strong and competitive season in Division 1 of the East of Scotland Cricket Association, finishing an impressive third place in the league table.

Across 18 matches, Musselburgh recorded 12 wins and 6 defeats, collecting 277 points and finishing behind only Dunfermline & Carnegie and Marchmont. A third-place finish for us reflects the consistency of the side throughout the campaign, with several outstanding individual performances contributing to an excellent team effort.

Vignesh leads the way with the bat
The standout batting performance of the season came from Vignesh Devaraj, who finished at the top of the batting charts with 628 runs. His consistency and weight of runs were a major factor in Musselburgh's success and made him one of the defining performers of the Division 1 season.

He received excellent support from Naveen Puttaswamayya, who scored 370 runs to finish 12th among Division 1's top run-scorers, while Hemant Verma enjoyed a superb all-round campaign. Hemant accumulated 361 runs, placing him 13th in the Division 1 batting rankings, while also making a major contribution with the ball.

Further important runs came from Anthony Ilyas, who finished the season with 240 runs, and Raja Tufail, who added 185 runs, helping provide valuable depth to the Musselburgh batting order.

Bowlers make their mark
Musselburgh also featured prominently among Division 1's leading wicket-takers.

Vinay Kumar Are led the way for the club with an outstanding 32 wickets, finishing third among the top wicket-takers in Division 1.

Not far behind was Hemant Verma, whose 30 wickets placed him fifth in the Division 1 wicket-taking charts. Combined with his 361 runs, Hemant's contribution with both bat and ball made him one of Musselburgh's most influential all-round performers of the season.

Naveen Kumar Siddappa also played an important role with 20 wickets, while Nikhil Kadyan made an immediate impression in his debut season for MCC. Appearing in just five matches, Nikhil claimed an impressive 14 wickets, an excellent return and an exciting introduction to the club. Mahesh Poojary's appearances were a bit sporadic this season, but still finished with 13 wickets at very economical rate.

A special debut for Taran Vignesh
One of the most memorable stories of the season came from the next generation. Taran Vignesh, the 13-year-old son of Vignesh Devaraj, made his Musselburgh CC Division 1 debut during the campaign. Bowling his leg-spin against senior opposition, Taran took four wickets from four innings in which he bowled.

For a 13-year-old to step into Division 1 cricket and contribute wickets is a fantastic achievement in itself, while seeing father and son represent Musselburgh during the same season made the occasion even more special for the club.

A season to be proud of
A third-place finish, 12 victories and a number of players featuring among Division 1's leading batting and bowling performers underline what was a highly successful season for Musselburgh.

From Vignesh Devaraj finishing as the leading run-scorer, to Vinay Kumar Are and Hemant Verma establishing themselves among the division's best bowlers, there were outstanding performances throughout the squad. The emergence of newcomers such as Nikhil Kadyan and the senior-cricket debut of 13-year-old Taran Vignesh also provide plenty of encouragement for the future.

Congratulations to everyone who represented and supported Musselburgh Cricket Club throughout the season. A third-place Division 1 finish is an achievement to be proud of, and provides a strong platform for the club to build on next season.
